Find a Nutritional TherapistNutritional Therapy Organisations

Nutritional Therapy is one of the fastest growing complementary therapies. The body of research which shows how our diet can effect our well-being, is constantly being refined and updated. For example there was once a hypothesis that a diet which is high in saturated fat could cause heart disease. This is now an accepted fact.

Our understanding of food allergies is also developing. A food allergy is a hypersensitivity reaction to certain proteins. This may cause symptoms such as fluid retention, or in more extreme cases, breathing difficulties and death if untreated. Skin disorders such as eczema may also be the result of a food allergy.

Nutritional therapists are concerned with additives and preservatives which may be harmful to our bodies. They look for signs of toxic overload from preservatives, pesticides, and food additives. Food intolerances are also significant, and may lead to diverse symptoms, including abdominal pain and bloating, or fatigue and listlessness.

In recent years there has been a growing interest in the process of oxidation and the subsequent release of damaging free radicals in the body. Research has shown how the presence of free radicals may be a significant factor in the development of cancer and heart disease. Fortunately, there are certain foods which help to remove free radicals, for example, broccoli, sprouts, tomatoes, and onions.

The Nutritional Therapist will begin by taking a full history, covering physical and mental health, diet, lifestyle, etc. They may ask for samples of urine, faeces, blood or hair to test. They will advise you on your diet, suggesting foods to avoid and guiding you towards a healthy combination. They may advise you to supplement your diet with certain vitamins, minerals, and herbs. Many Nutritional Therapists are also trained in other holistic therapies.

Nutritional Therapy can be employed to treat the following conditions;(there are many more)..

Important message

Anyone can call themselves a nutritional therapist. Quite often, the therapist will also be trained in another complementary therapy. Be wary of those services which claim to be able to diagnose a condition from a sample alone. Remember, if in doubt contact a professional organisation as below
