The spine and the musculoskeletal system adjacent to it, are the main focus for the healing art of Chiropractic, although the chiropractor may concentrate on other joints.
Problems in the spine and those areas related to it, can be brought about through a variety of causes, such as accidents, injuries, illness and poor posture. In turn this can cause pain, discomfort, and other distressing symptoms. The chiropractor will aim to restore normal functioning in order to promote the body's self-healing and relieve symptoms.
The Chiropractor will use a variety of techniques, tailored to the individual to bring about a re-alignment of joints.
Before commencing treatment the Chiropractor will take a history, including details about lifestyle, and may well employ X-Rays in order to rule out disease and aid diagnosis.
Advice on improving posture and appropriate exercise are an important part of the consultation.
Under the Chiropractic act of 1994, the Government sought to regulate the training and registration of Chiropractors in the UK., in order to maintain standards of practice. Make sure the Chiropractor you choose has undergone comprehensive training and is registered with one of the following bodies:
